March Madness

This has been a tough month. Mom got admitted to the hospital with her GI bleed. They decided they wanted to do an endoscopy which involved a GI prep. A GI prep on an old, weak person is wrong on so many levels. She called me about 30 minutes after it began and told me she couldn't do it that she wanted me to pick her up and she would come back in a couple of months and try. I told her that was her choice but if she was bleeding now doing the test in a couple of months wasn't really helpful. I would totally understand if she didn't want to have the test and let whatever was going to happen, happen. She decided she wanted the test. I called Brad and asked him if he could take time off work and stay with her which he did. He spent two nights at the hospital with her. This made mom really happy.  The lower GI didn't show anything other than a couple of polyps. She wanted to come home Monday night but her potassium was low and they wouldn't discharge her until 2 a.m. and I told her that didn't work for me. I picked her up Tuesday morning. When the nurse came in she told the nurse that Brad was nice to her but I was the one that "beat her." Seriously, she said that. Brad's jaw dropped. It was kind of nice because now he sees how she treats me. She hated the hospital and could not wait to get out. She told me that she kept seeing monsters with machines in her room.  I got her home and she was happy for about 24 hours and now she's back to not liking anything I do. Such is the life of trying to take care of an unhappy, sick old person. She got her cast off on Thursday. I had already arranged for Lynn to take her. He took her to get the cast off and then took her out to lunch which made her really happy. She was upset about the breakfast Don gave her on Sunday while I was working. I told her I'd arrange to have the home caregiver come on Tuesday and fix her lunch because I had to leave for work at 5:30 a.m. She didn't want that! I left a banana and pastry on her bed for this morning. I wish she would just spend the money and have the caregiver come five days a week.

On to Sean. Sean got sick on Sunday the 9th (while mom was in the hospital). He woke up in the middle of the night with a croupy cough. The cough turned to a nasty regular cough with a high fever and low oxygen saturations. I took him to Primaries on Wednesday because he was getting sicker and I couldn't get him into the doctor. He has RSV and a viral pneumonia. They gave him Tamiflu which I don't really get because it doesn't work for RSV. I took him to our regular family doctor yesterday because he still has a fever and feels like crap. He put him on Zithromax. He's been off oxygen since Sunday so that's an improvement. He's still too sick to do much and mostly lays around. He has very little appetite. He missed all of last week at school and it's not looking like he's going to go this week.
Don sent me this picture while I was at work. Note the one sock. Since Don's stroke his right foot is always cold so he sleeps with one sock. Sean sleeps with one sock as well.

A day at the zoo (or at least a book about a day at the zoo)

Sean's been sick so he came to work with me a couple of times. Alika was working for me so she kept him happy. They made a book. Very cute. Alika is a talented artist and Sean loves to make books. On Sunday he made a menu and drew pictures of all the foods along with the prices. I will have to take pictures of that as well.

I like how you can tell which pictures Sean drew. It was quite the work of art.

Mario had to make an appearance even though Pirates is his "thing" this week. Mario is shooting the mushroom boss.

It didn't stop

Mom's bleeding didn't stop and she decided she wanted to go to the ER. I took her in around 2:30 and they admitted her around 9. Good grief, that's a long time to sit in the ER. She was really tired of laying on the ER stretcher. They did a scope from above today and couldn't find any bleeding. Tomorrow they are going to scope from below. Just in case she's not miserable enough she will have to endure a bowel prep tonight. Yuck!

Snowchi

The snow at Wolf Mountain has been so bad Catherine called it Snowchi. All those poor Olympians skiing on slush, going for gold. Sean has really loved skiing this year. He is skiing rails and going down the big mountain. Last Sunday he and Don went to Brighton where they had new snow and they skied in the trees.

Only one more week of ski lessons. I have to work next week so I won't be able to go. We went to the Mexican restaurant in Eden after class. It was crazy crowded so we took over the bar. It worked out well. If we'd waited for a table we might still be there. The kids were starving and there was a television at the bar so they were able to watch the Jazz get beat by 30 points. The people at the restaurant were amazed that we had six kids with us. I don't know why six kids and three adults is surprising to anyone in Utah. It's not like we were in China.
I thought about telling them we were polygamist or that Catherine and the boys were all our children.

I think Mom has a GI bleed. Don just went to Walgreens and got an occult blood test kit. She's not eating and is weak. I asked her this morning if she wanted to go to the ER and she said no. She hasn't eaten or drank all day. I asked her again this afternoon and she said no. She got her new outdoor stair lift installed last week so she's not worried about us taking her up the steep ramp. She's just sick and tired of being sick and tired and doesn't want to be scoped and poked. I don't blame her I wouldn't want it either. I was looking up GI bleeds and scleroderma and it is a common complication of the disease.

More hat action

Another hat inspired by an episode of Kipper the Dog. I was pretty upset when Netflix cancelled Kipper but found it on Amazon Prime so all is well in Kipper Town.

A little Pirates of the Caribbean going on here.

Khloe and a seriously big bow. She had a little barrette in her hair which looked cute but was funny because she does not have a lot of hair. She likes all things electronic, phones, remotes, computers.
Cute face but doesn't show the cute little giggle that goes with it.

Sean's work

Not sure what this picture was for but it made me laugh.

Sean's learned to write and is now leaving notes on his door. Do not come in here. Fortunately, he wrote and addendum letting me know I could enter.

Don has been working on remodeling one of the condos. He sketched out the kitchen with  measurements.
Sean copied Don's sketch very accurately.

Sean's still into pirates this week.

A work sheet Sean brought home from school.
