Happy Birthday Khlo Bolicious

Blink and your kids will be grown. I think the addendum to that is blink and your grandchildren will be grown. Khloe is four and so grown up. Vally is 1 and almost walking. Sean is 9 and so big. Time goes so fast.

Khloe had a birthday party at Boondocks. She was excited to have her friends from school at her party.

Sean wasn't overly impressed with the plethora of little girls.

I thought she was going to catch that napkin on fire. She played with it while we sang.

The day after her birthday I fixed lasagna so I decided to make a birthday cake. Technically she just had cupcakes at her party so a birthday cake was due. Who am I kidding I'm always baking cakes. I've been practicing decorating. I think I'm going to take a class. One more thing I should have had my mother teach me.

Book Battles

Cheeky kid and this was before they won!

He had Book Battles in his hands.

Team 4 Kinds of Sheep won district. It was a long day five hours of competition. They did not lose a single match at their elementary school or at district. There were 19 third grade teams competing at district.

We took the boys to DQ afterwards because they wanted Blizzards.

Chicken field trip

The weather was so nice on Easter that we took the chicks outside. At first we only took a couple out because we were worried about chasing them all around and trying to catch them. The grass was pretty high and the chicks are short so they didn't get far.

Vally is unimpressed with this whole chicken "thing."

Ming Ting and a chick.

Milla and all the chicks.

Sean the chicken whisperer.

Happy birthday Vally girl

We blinked and Vally girl turned 1. (Khloe's hair looks crazy because I tried to flat iron it.)

Frosting, so yummy!

I love that sweet face. Vally is such a happy, inquisitive little girl. She crawls like the wind and is really close to walking. She babbles and can say no. She put some tape in her mouth today I looked at her and she smiled and said "no."

AJ didn't believe that Khloe understands everything Steph said in Spanish and was trying to get Steph to test her. Khloe didn't want to play that game because she was playing with the chickens. Steph told her in Spanish to put a chicken on her dad's head and she comes running in with a chicken and tries to put it on his head. Then she hops on one foot and does everything else she's told to do in Spanish. Smart little girl. She's getting a speech evaluation at JA Taylor today. They are evaluating in English and Spanish. Her language skills have really improved the past few months but she's still hard to understand.

Happy Easter

We didn't do anything in advance of Easter. I'm not really sure why. I wasn't even sure we were going to do an Easter egg hunt until Easter morning. On Saturday I bought a turkey and a couple bags of candy. Carter prefers turkey over ham. Don got down the eggs Sunday morning and filled some with candy.

Khloe and Val played with the empty eggs. Khloe even found some stale candy from last year. (Or maybe five years ago, who knows.)

We colored eggs.

I had a color kit I bought after Easter last year. It said it was spill proof. It stayed pretty clean but there was still a little bit of color spilled on Val's shirt.

We put food color on chickens heads to try and identify who is who. Later Milla and Sean put different color bands on their legs. Sean is stressed about the bands and wants to take them off because he's worried it is hurting them. One of them fell off.

The kids decorated cupcakes.
After dinner Sean and Khloe had an egg hunt. Not much competition with just the two of them but they had fun.
Vally wasn't into it. She's not too sure about the whole "grass thing."

I've flipped my lid

We've talked about getting chickens for years and never followed through. When we were in Australia the eggs were so much better than the eggs here that we decided to actually make the chicken leap. We got six baby chicks from the tractor store. They say they are all hens. We will see. The coop we wanted was out of stock so they gave us a rain check. The chicks can't go in a coop for six weeks anyway. Everyone has great fun playing with the chickens. Khloe who is scared of so many things loves them. She picks them up and carries them around. She was yelling about a dead lady bug in the window seal but chickens are an entirely different basket of eggs.
Sean keeps saying "I can't believe we got chickens." I hope it makes up for not getting him a lamb. I don't think residential Centerville is zoned for sheep. We got a "chicken permit" which allows us to keep 10 chickens but no roosters. We don't want roosters because they are noisy and don't lay eggs. Once we get the coop we are going to buy a couple adult hens so we don't have to wait a year for eggs.

Steph loves the chickens too. She had a pet chicken when she was little.
