Runny nosed Val Pal

Cutest toddler in the world was too sick for daycare on Monday and Tuesday so she hung out with Grandma. On Monday she was wheezing and wouldn't eat but Tuesday she just had a runny nose. She took two naps on Tuesday. This was her letting me know she was ready for the first one.

I put some Nutella on a graham cracker which she liked with the exception of the graham cracker.

Please, may I have some more!

After the nutella she required a bath.

We went to Dicks and she was wearing my glasses. I told her she was beautiful and she said "booful." That kid is cute and smart. She counts 1,2,3 then 3,2,1 then 1,2,3,8. After we got back from Dicks she took another nap.

I got another cute note from Sean's teacher. I am amazed she even knows who the kids are after less than a week of school. I wonder how long until she separates Sean and Andrew as they are sitting next to each other. I'm surprised that hasn't already happened. I can't imagine they aren't talking during class.
Dear Sean's parents,

I think Sean has been trying harder in my classroom! I see big progress on participation and trying. He looks like more interested and more motivated.  I love it when I see his face lightened up when he feels great about what he just did.  He is heading on the right direction!  I want to see more and more of  his smiles in my classroom! Great job!

Please share this with Sean.

Love Loud and Imagine Dragons

We went to the Love Loud music festival because Sean wanted to see Imagine Dragons. The festival was different all the bands, Walk the Moon, Neon Tree and a couple others had a Utah County connection. The purpose of the festival was to connect the LGBTQ community and the Mormon community. There was a whole lot of "we love the LGBTQ youth" and then a bunch of we love the Mormon's. There was even some scripture quoting which I just found strange. They had Tom Christopherson there who is Todd Christopherson's brother. My mom would have gotten a kick out of that.

Sean had to wait for all the other bands to play and the speakers to speak. He was surprisingly patient.

And finally Imagine Dragons! Sean loved it. The concert ended about 11. We had amazing parking when we got there at 6. I'm not sure how we got so lucky. We were out before the traffic got bad. Our ears were ringing. It was loud!

We were trying to take a selfie on the way out and I cut off  Don's head. A couple stopped and took one for us with Don's head intact.

With all our heads intact!

Sean loves his music, which makes this note from his teacher on the second day of school amusing. Sean said "I just don't like the song we were singing." Don told the teacher he liked Imagine Dragons so the next day she asked him to stay in for recess to listen with her. He wanted to go out and play basketball. That's a cute teacher who tries so hard to engage with all her students by the second day of class.

Dear Sean's parents,

This is Su Laoshi. Sean's 4th grade Chinese teacher.
Sean is a lovely boy. I love having him in my class. After two days of school, I noticed that he is not as engaged in some of my classroom activities as other kids are. I have read your "handle with care" paper.  You said one of his fear is "being left at school."  Do you mean by " being left out at school?"   I noticed today  that he didn't enjoy our singing learning time. (or maybe I took his facial expression the wrong?)  I had a praivate converation with him. I understand that singing is not everybody's thing.  But I hold the believe people love singing by nature. Because we all hum when we are happy. I am wondering if he is not confident in singing and he is afraid of getting embarrassed?  And his awareness of things get in his way of learning it?

I want to help kids learn to love music/art/dance/science/.... love learning. I don't know how to motivate him as his teacher. It will be great if you can help me figure out how to engage him better in my classroom.

I am looking forword to either meeting you and Sean, or just your email response.

Thank you,

Su Laoshi

Robbed

I went to the classroom to do a virtual day. Claudia had been there until 5:30 the day before and Sean and I got there at 7:30. I set Sean up in the office with his computer. When I went to the front desk the change jar was like this. I took the picture and sent it to Claudia and said "what the heck?"

Sean was telling me the internet wasn't working so I went around and reset the routers. It still wasn't working so I went in the closet to he main router and it was disconnected and on the floor. I thought, what the heck. I plugged it in and then I looked in the testing room. Three of our computers were gone. Someone broke in the backdoor to get in the classroom then broke into the closet and the office.

They disconnected our camera system and wiped out the last 24 hours.

Strange break in. They didn't take all the computers and they didn't break anything. They disconnected our $400 router and set it on the floor. Most peculiar.

Khloe's tooth

Poor little Khloe and her bum teeth. One of the teeth she had capped abscessed and she had to have it pulled.

First day of 4th grade, first eggs from baby chicks

I really cannot believe this boy is in 4th grade and Khloe is 4. Time goes so fast that it is terrifying. It won't be too long until I am 60. Three of my siblings are over 60. How did that happen?

One of our Easter chicks started laying. It's the dark egg.

Busy weekend for Sean

Sean went to the Davis county fair with Ethan and Andrew and found a sheep to pet.

On Sunday Don and Sean came to the classroom to help me with fixing the doors. Since they were close to Kylie and Brie's they decided to stop by and see if they were home. They were playing hookie from church and were in the pool. Sean jumped in, in his clothes and swam for an hour.

Room change

I was looking at Sean's room and thinking it was a matter of time before he wanted the walls painted to a not so "little kid" theme but Sean decided he wanted to upgrade to the "big" room. The Monday after my surgery I decided to move him. Probably not my wisest decision. I had to move 3 beds. My mom's bed is really heavy and I moved it into what is now the guest room. Sean's old room has my sewing stuff in it.

All moved. There's still some stuff in his old room that I haven't gone through.

We moved the desk Don made me years ago from our bedroom to Sean's, He really likes his corner office.

Busted

The girls were eating marshmallows and they were so cute I took a picture and sent it to Steph. Little did I know marshmallows are on Steph's do not eat list. Valley has gotten so grown up, she can count to 3. She went potty twice at daycare.
