Kazuri Bead Factory

This was a really interesting place. The bead factory began in 1975 as a place for single mother's to work. They pay a fair wage and their employees get health insurance. They work 5 1/2 days per week. The beads are hand made from clay. They make the clay at the facility as well. Some women make the beads, others paint them, others fire them and still others make the jewelry. Everyone is trained in all the areas so they can rotate and aren't always doing the same thing. I spoke with a woman who has worked there for over 30 years. The jewelry is beautiful.
I felt kind of bad for the workers, they are always on display. I guess the tourist fee's that are paid and the money spent at the gift shop help pay the bills.

30 years at these tables. I guess there are a lot worse jobs in the world.
