Toddler found alone in trashed apartment; 2 arrested

SALT LAKE CITY -- Police arrested two Salt Lake City men who are accused of leaving a 19-month-old girl alone in a trashed apartment.

Police say the child's mother took her to a barbecue with family and friends Monday evening at an apartment complex on the 600 block of Park Street (540 East). At some point, the toddler's mother left her in the care of Ryan Vestal, 25, and his father, Michael Vestal, 49.

Family members returned later in the evening, found the girl alone in an apartment and called police. Investigators say the apartment was littered with empty and spilled beer cans and drug paraphernalia. Police say the girl was covered in filth and smelled like alcohol.

Ryan and Michael Vestal were arrested and booked into jail for child endangerment.

The girl's mother was not arrested, but police say the investigation is ongoing.

Go to KSL.com read the comments they are priceless. What would people say if they knew that the girls had been living like this since they were born and he was given unsupervised visitation AND I am supposed to let him see Sean unsupervised. Things that make you go hmm, or rather things that make you want to barf. If the public knew they would be outraged. I know this mom is an idiot but thank God she called the police and reported Ryan, Mike and her own stupidity.

Wow, so many emotions as I read those comments. But I'm with you--I just sort of laughed to myself and said, "if they only knew." Thank freakin' goodness the girls are safe--and Sean and Ryder too!

HOLY CRAP, please oh pretty please tell me that the case workers, judges and everyone else will hear about this in regards to the little girls so they aren't allowed unsupervised visits. That is unreal. I still don't understand how the judge decided to allow visits with Ryan, isn't it obvious the type of Dad he is.
