Camping

Some kids sit around the campfire and sing songs and others sit around the campfire and watch videos on a lap top. This was the campground at Elk Meadows in the Redwoods. No water or electric hook ups. We were next to the bathrooms which was nice. The bathrooms had pay showers. Unfortunately two out of three times they didn't work. The sites were weird shaped so we had a tiny space for the pop up camper and a bunch of unused space. The fire pit was also too close to the camper. There was a blue jay that spent it's time hanging around our campsite waiting for us to drop something. The humidity was 100% so everything was kind of damp. It was very pretty but there wasn't a whole lot of the kids to do at the campsite. We did a couple of hikes.

I got the coolest string of LED lights that I put over their bed.  They were such good campers. Six nights and no drama! Sean loved having his sisters on the trip and they loved being there.

Sean was into photo bombing.

Don had the trip organized by day and I had it organized by meal. The kids loved roasting marshmallows and eating smores.

After two nights at Elk Meadows we were ready to move on. We went to another state park about 30 minutes away called Patrick Point. Since it was in the same park system they transferred our reservation and payment. This camp ground was full of rabbits and all sorts of little furry rodents. The kids liked the log on our site. Our site was right next to the beach, sort of. The beach was about 100 feet below but we could hear the surf from our camper.

Hanging out on the picnic table.

There were paw prints on our cooler inside our bear box. At first we thought it was a baby bear though we couldn't figure out how it squeezed into the bear box. After looking at paw prints on line I concluded it was a skunk. Good thing we didn't surprise that little visitor.
