First stop Oregon

This was my first time in Oregon. We drove through desolate Oregon, miles and miles of nothing. Don had planned to stop at a restaurant in a little town, have lunch and fill up the gas tank. The restaurant was closed and so was the gas pump. Don talked to someone at the town center (a big warehouse looking building that was also the library) and they told him the restaurant and gas station were under new management. Don ran into the building that was the restaurant and there was a lady holding a baby in a room with half the lights out and no food or gas for sale. We drove to the next town which was 81 miles a way. We had about 30 miles to spare in our gas tank The town we stopped in was called Adele. We didn't know but in Oregon you cannot pump your own gas. We were standing outside a pump that looked like something from the 60's. I didn't think it worked. A few minutes later a man came out and asked if we needed gas. We said yes, he pulled out a key unlocked the pump and filled up our gas tank. I asked if they had food inside and he said yes so we went in.  I don't think I have ever seen so much taxidermy in one place, dead animals all over. There was a picture of the graduating class of Adele hanging on the wall, all 4 of them! The man who pumped our gas owned the restaurant and was also on the school board. He said most of the kids go to boarding school once they reach high school because the schools are too far away. I can't imagine living somewhere that desolate. I'm not sure where people work, where they shop or where they go to the hospital. It's a different life style. I'm sure there are some perks, no gangs, no noise pollution or air pollution. It was funny to listen to the conversations the locals were having. "Thanks for that new feed my horses really like it."

Kylie said "this place is creeping me out!"

I hear you Kylie, it's kind of creeping me out too. They had a dog wandering around the restaurant too. I don't guess the health department does too many surprise inspections

We stayed in Lakeview Oregon which was only another 40 miles from Adele. It too was in the middle of freaking nowhere but there was more of a town. The campground was on about 50 acres of cattle pasture. There was a moo here and a moo moo there. Brie's not overly fond of cows. We interrupted a bull and a cow in the middle of trying to make a calf. Brie said "why is that cow looking at us like he wants to hurt us?" That would be because he does. It was an exceptionally nice camp ground, water and electric hook ups, an outdoor sink with hot water, awesome bathroom with showers and a laundry room. We didn't do any laundry as it was our first night out but the laundry room had an iron. Really, who uses an iron when their camping?

Selfies in the cow pasture.

Water pump that really worked.

The kids reenacting Phoebe falling through the cattle grate. She fell through and I had a momentary panic wondering what the heck we would do if she had a broken leg in the middle of nowhere! She wasn't hurt, thank goodness.
